Realistic CGI Eggs in Maya

Initially, I wondered how to model a hard-shelled body in computer graphics. You also want it to be translucent in real time as light hits it. The video you see below is the result of this.

To achieve this, use Light Direction utility and procedural 3D textures readily available in Maya.
